This article show a guide on how to use bmw diagnostic tool E/F Scanner to read BMW ISN coding for BMW CAS1-CAS3+ system.

The BMW Explorer program has a possibility of reading a code of synchronization of ISN (all versions of CAS1 CAS2 CAS3 CAS3+).

Go to the CAS control unit, “Additional functions”, “Reading ISN”

In the opened window ISN will be displayed.

If the machine is equipped with the EWS3 system where 2 bytes of the constant part and the change are used, it will be displayed in the window 2 bytes of ISN DME (the upper 3 windows will be empty), if necessary they can be changed.

If the machine uses the EWS4 system, then 16 bytes of constant synchronization are used and there is no variable part.

Also after 2006, CAS3 uses an anti-theft code for EGS

If there is an EWS3 system in the car, then this code is the same with the engine control unit, if the machine already has an EWS4 system, then EGS uses separate 2 bytes

The program is in place of the engine ISN, it will display the gearbox code .. as in the picture below

Esys vs Carly

Carly: not for coding; E sys: coding success

I have been using Carly on my F30 for over a year, but not for coding, as that’s still not supported on Android. Carly can read and clear diagnostic codes and a host of other things that E-Sys isn’t meant to do. I recommend going to their website and checking on its capabilities there. From what they’ve told me, their F-chassis coding will probably be limited to the KOMBI module (dashboard items), but it may expand to include HU-ENTRY/CIC/NBT/NBT2 and FEM_BODY in the future.

It’s a simple connect (via their BT adapter), read coding data, select features to activate or deactivate (or change values), then push back into the module. Same as E-Sys but with a much more simplified interface. It allows you to save the module coding data as a backup, just like E-Sys. It worked great for coding on E-chassis cars, so I’m hoping it will be the same for F-Chassis, although they’ve had quite a bit of time to get things working and so far, coding with Android still isn’t fully tested yet. I’ve since used E-Sys for coding my F30 and the wife’s F23.

BMW E-Sys works better than Carly app in Fxx coding

I used Carly for my wife’s previous E88 128 convertible and it worked great – no having to do one item at a time, etc. Not quite sure what the problem is with the F-cars, because the principle is the same – read coding data, modify, write coding data. Apparently the new “network” and whatever read/write protocol that implies is far different than the CANbus of the E-series cars.

By comparison, E-Sys has improved vastly over the past year or two and coding both my F30 and the wife’s new F23 was relatively easy, particularly since you can save the coding data, disconnect, take the computer inside to do the modifications on a copy of the saved data, then reconnect and push the data back using the modified file. No more sitting in the car searching for the feature to be coded while the engine’s idling.

Carly adapter– Bluetooth; E sys ENET cable– Ethernet to OBD

Actually, the Carly adapter is Bluetooth. E-Sys looks for a connection via the ethernet port on your laptop. It won’t recognize BT at all – at least, I’ve not been able to make it do so. If your laptop doesn’t have an ethernet/RJ45 connector, you’ll need to find a device that does. Pretty sure that you can’t use a USB-to-ethernet adapter, either.

You may fail to figure out how to correctly install this John Deere Service Advisor 4.0 software, coz the original Service Advisor Box contains 9 DVD inside.

you must to declare path of those disks. personally i go to:

– file menu-Preferences: in Service Advisor preferences mask in seth data path insert:

from DVD DRIVE:
search button adn select drive letter of DVD CF_EN201405_XX or CF_JDIN_201405_XX

from folder from each DVD
ADD data path for each DVD
in each line hit Search and declare all path for each DVD folder

John Deere Service Advisor 4 on a machine with win 10 64bit:

1/you must have enough disk space to download the full set of February 2016 data base (52Gb); it comes with seven iso images and the SA4.0 image and a February 2015 update which you don’t need and of course the activator.

2/use an iso mounter software to mount the SA4.0 image to a virtual drive.

3/browse to the setup file in your virtual drive and run it as administrator

follow the steps (it will prompt for a username and password use those of your windows user account if you’re under 7-8 or 10 windows version)

it will take a while! don’t turn off the computer and don’t worry about the incompatibility messages that windows will show you during the installation process specially for the SQL 2005 server installation.

4/after completing the installation of the SA4.0 reboot the computer and set back the system time to mars 2016.

5/mount the first iso image of the data discs to a virtual drive, browse the sauce folder and run setup file as administrator; wait for it to complete the installation it will launch the SA 4.2.005 at this step you may have a message that the SA 4.2.005 is not capable of launching the search engine don’t worry close it and go to task manager (ctr+alt+sup)
click on services and look for the LightweightIDOL service if it’s stopped than run it.
6/run the activator as administrator and activate the Service Advisor; don’t use the prolongation tool at this step!.
7/now go to the task manager again and look for the SAupdater service and disable it.
8/re-open the Service Advisor, click the accept button for the license agreement, and configure the path for the data access you can use the mapping for a virtual drive choice to map each data disc image to a virtual drive it will take more than an hour to load all the data disk.
it will ask you for scheduling the update choose the end of the week and create the task.
9/Now close the SA, use the activator again but this time just use the prolongation tool choose 9000 days or whatever you want.
10/Look for the task scheduler and run it, choose the SAupdate task and modify the time for the task to begin to 2030 or whatever you want.
11/reboot the computer and set back the time machine to the actual time, launch SA and everything must work ok.

if you have any trouble than you messed something just clean up and reinstall.

For R models the line is different. ROADSPEEDLIMIT=3 change to ROADSPEEDLIMIT=5 or any other you need.

You only need to reprogram transmission controller for that.
If you reprogrammed all of them, some settings might have went to default so you might get up to 5 fault codes that you need to configure with SA.

I have a question about trying to up the power of a 6330 to a 6430. If I compare the engine pld of both tractor they are identical (just the info in the bottom is different) So I don’t know how it could up the power if all the code is the same??

most pld files are made for various models, the info at the bottom determines which part of the pld file will be used for programming. For example:

Test with VAS5054A, Conclusion, Recommendation

Here is my story of Odis 4.4.10.

VAS 5054A and odis 4.4.10:

One of my 2 vas5054a has original amb2300 but does not work with odis-s 4.4.10.
I get a ODS2522E that hardware is not supported. (same as the one without original amb2300)

I have tested amb2300 with softing edic configuration manager. Also tested with PDU api application. All tests ok. Configurator manager did not work with vas5054a without amb2300

Then, tested working PDU api and tried to solves the issue however I am not happy with the result. In theory original amb2300 should work.

Tests:
1. 1.20.41 does not work at all with either of my 2 interfaces. So back to 1.20.42
2. Enabled buzzer just to check that my amb2300 is original. Enabled.
3. Tried to connect with bluetooth (amb2300 interface). Laptop connected successfully. Tried to connect odis-s with car and started buzzing continuously and then an error appeared, buzz continued.
In English
there is no mcd project available

I am ditching odis-4.4.10.

Before 4.2.3 test will test 4.3.3 to check if that works, in order to check if the problem is hardware or software.

Then i was advised to make another folder Softing.ori  put ther new Pdu:

Did not work but good try. That made me think that PDU API is the problem.

However found out that VW has locked the D-PDU API directory location (or file names) and managed to install at the 1.20.042 location the 1.20.041 pdu api and renamed 3 files to …..1.20.042 (2 xml 1 dll same as DPDU api test application 3 files mentioned).

now it works, actually tested just vas5054a with fake bluetooth and works.

This is not a straight forward procedure, however after manipulation of D-pdu api (1.20.042 vecom, the 3 files) odis 4.4.10 works.

My amb2300 is original since I have downgraded it to 1.20.041 firmware (with the D-PDU API) test application) however it does not work out of the box with odis 4.4.10. Will test the second one tomorrow.

My conclusion:

First, that pdu api directory (file name) is locked.

Second, amb2300 original does  not work as tested. (problem with 1.20.042 pdu API driver specifically Softing/1.20.042/VeCom/VAS5054a files as seen in second solution below).

Other solutions:
1. Test the PDU API 1.20.042 found in odis 4.3.3 (check pdu_api_root.xml is correct 1.20.042)
2. Want to test original 1.20.042 but to replace in vecom vas5054 folder from 1.20.041 folder. (No other changes, check again pdu_api_root.xml is for 1.20.042 )

Test performed:
1. Tested second vas5054a with original amb2300. All tests with usb and bluetooth pass with first solution above. Note in this test I used amb2300 firmware 1.20.041 since I used pdu api 1.20.041 renamed folder to 1.20.042 and 3 files to 1.20.042 as discussed above. Bluetooth works too.

2. Second solution tested with original amb2300. (not tested with clone but most probably will work)
b) reinstall pdu api 1.20.042 pdu api
b) Replace vas5054 folder (from 1.20.041) in softing/1.20.042/vecom/vas5054.
c) update amb2300 firmware to 1.20.042 (this is the difference from solution 1) since I used pdu api 1.20.042.
d) Both usb and bluetooth work. Amazing… I have original amb2300 (but with fake serial number).

Here’s the working solution to Chrysler diagnostic tool wiTech MicroPod 2 clone “No longer Supported by wiTech 1.0” error.

“This vehicle is supported by wiTECH 2.0 software. This vehicle is no longer supported by wiTECH 1.0. Please use wiTech 2.0 to service this vehicle. You will return to discovery. ”

Solution from Obd2tool.com engineer:

Please DON’T update your wiTech to V2.0 even if you have online account.  You cannot do downgrade anymore and will have risk of being locked by Chrysler server.

Solution 1.
Remove current version V17.04.27, download and install lower version witech 17.03.10.

Solution 2.
Reinstall computer operating system, and install wiTech V17.04.27 software again.

Xtooltech learn that day that there was too much competition in diagnostics, and very little in immobilizer. I have work on making the tool better, I have not stop.

My goal is to keep developing and improving their tool (there is no money Xtooltech is paying me). Ken the owner has tried to pay me for my work and I have refuse. My mission is to make it a great tool.. what is my reward to be remember.

I reached their customer service in China about the CReader. They told me this CReader is powerful but generic, and it should be more than enough for general DIY usage. BUT If a dedicated Porsche scanner is really preferred, they have some $1000+ version tools. The funny thing is iCarScan X431 is only marketed overseas, not in Chinese market. iCarScan is not listed on Launch website at all.
